How to use Destiny Discover
Destiny Discover is the platform used by many schools to manage and display their library collections. The interface may change over time, but the search process generally follows the same structure.
Select the Correct School
When you first open Destiny Discover, make sure you are viewing the correct school location.
Use the location selector (often shown as a school name near the top of the page) to confirm you are searching within the specific school library you want to review.
If needed, switch to another school from the location menu before beginning your search.
Search by Title, Author, or Topic
Use the search bar to enter:
A specific book title
An author’s name
A keyword or topic
If the book is held by that particular school library, it will appear in the results.
Open the Book Record
Click on the book cover or title to open the full record.
Some titles may have multiple formats listed (for example, print copy, eBook, or audiobook). Select the format you want to review.
Review Copy Information
Within the book’s record, look for the section that displays copies or availability.
This area typically shows:
The number of copies at the selected school
The call number
Whether the item is currently available or checked out
Some districts also display copies held at other schools within the district. These may appear as “off-site” or “other location” copies.
Understanding Call Numbers
If a call number begins with PRO, the copy may be designated for professional or teacher use only and may not be available for student checkout.
Other call numbers will vary by school classification system.
Important Note About District-Wide Searches
Destiny Discover typically searches one school at a time.
If a title does not appear at the first school you search, you must manually switch to other schools within the district and repeat the search to confirm whether the book exists elsewhere in the district.
Searching only one school does not confirm district-wide absence.
A Final Reminder
Library holdings can change. Books may be added, relocated, reclassified, or removed over time. For the most accurate information, verify both the school location and the date of your search.
Changes to District-Wide Search Functionality (2025)
In prior years, Destiny Discover allowed users to view multiple school locations within the district from a single search results page. This feature made it possible to see all schools holding a title in one view.
As of 2025, the district configuration appears to limit searches to one school at a time. Users must now manually switch between school locations to determine district-wide availability.
This change does not prevent access to information, but it does require additional steps to verify whether a title is held at multiple schools. As a result, documentation now requires individual screenshots from each school location searched.
Library settings and search permissions may change over time. Users are encouraged to confirm the search scope before drawing conclusions about district-wide availability.
